DESCRIPTION OF A WORK OF ART
SWIMMING
I
have chosen this work of art because I suppose that my friends will describe
landscapes and still life paintings; so I want to be original. Furthermore, I
know that my teacher loves swimming.
Swimming
is a painting by José Moreno, painted in 2007. The style is realistic because
it describes reality. It can be considered a seascape if the viewer thinks that
it is the sea. But I think it is a portrait of a lady swimming and laughing. It
is taken from bird´s eye view. It is difficult to distinguish foreground and
background because everything is focussed on the centre of the image.
The
viewer might think that the most important is the body of the woman; however,
the painting evolves something else and you think you are in the water. The
woman is wearing some googles and a bikini. She is very happy because she is
smiling. The technique surprised me, because the waves are very natural and the
waist-down is fading because of the water. On the shoulder there is a bright
point which takes the viewer´s attention because it is a loud colour. Light and
dark colours are mixed in the image. He uses curved shapes. I believe it might
be midday because the sun is above the girl. From the right upper part the body
is drawn towards the left bottom part.
In
my opinion the artist wants to express how the girl is happy in the sea and she
enjoys the water, waves, the salt of the sea, the summer in Spain and how
cool she is. The atmosphere is peaceful
and relaxing and it reminds me my
holidays in Gandía.
